We all know the jolt of hitting a raised steel road plate or an unexpected speed bump while driving. This impact is harsh on our car's tires, suspension, and steering. Similarly, industrial warehouse forklifts experience significant wear and tear when they encounter raised joints between concrete floor slabs.
The Impact of Raised Concrete Slab Edges
Raised edges on concrete slabs can damage forklifts, products, and even cause loads to shift and spill. Forklift operators also feel the harsh impact each time they cross these raised edges, leading to increased equipment maintenance and potential safety issues.
Concrete Floor Repair by Sussan-Allen Construction
At Sussan-Allen Construction, we have been repairing industrial concrete flooring for nearly 40 years. Our extensive experience allows us to handle all types of concrete floor damage efficiently.
Addressing Common Concrete Floor Issues
A frequent issue we encounter is raised edges and uneven joints between concrete slabs, often caused by a phenomenon known as curling. Curling occurs when the top and bottom of a concrete slab dry at different rates and temperatures.
Here’s our approach to solving this problem and ensuring smooth transitions across floor joints:
Cutting a Keyway: Keyways are cut on both sides of the slab joint to ensure a seamless transition between the old and newly repaired concrete.
Grinding: Grinders are utilized to eliminate raised slab edges and create a gradual slope along the joint.
Edge Repair: The spalled edges of the slab on both sides of the joint are meticulously repaired.
Recutting: The repaired joint is recut to achieve a precise and clean finish.
Filling the Joint: The newly cut joint is filled with polyurea to enhance its durability.
Sealing: A decorative sealer is applied to the repaired and ground concrete, providing protection and improving its aesthetic appeal.
