At Sussan Allen Construction, we are dedicated to providing top-tier seawall construction and repair services. A crucial component of our seawall solutions is the use of Jet Filter System's weep hole drains, designed to maintain seawall integrity by preventing water pressure build-up behind the structure.
The Importance of Weep Hole Drains
Weep hole drains are essential for the longevity and effectiveness of seawalls. They allow water to escape from behind the seawall, reducing hydrostatic pressure and preventing structural damage. This process is vital in maintaining the seawall's stability and extending its lifespan.
Jet Filter System's Innovative Solutions
Jet Filter System's weep hole drains are designed for optimal performance and durability. Their products feature:
High-Quality Materials: Constructed from robust materials that withstand harsh marine environments.
Efficient Drainage: Engineered to provide maximum water flow, ensuring that water pressure does not compromise the seawall.
Easy Installation: Designed for straightforward integration into new or existing seawalls, minimizing disruption and labor costs.
Case Study: Lake Park Marina
Lake Park Marina, located in Lake Park, FL, experienced severe soil loss and sinkholes behind its seawall, causing the paver-covered sidewalks to become uneven and hazardous. By 2013, the marina required extensive repairs to stop the soil loss, fill the sinkholes, and restore the walkways and seawall.
The Problem: Failing Sidewalks & Dangerous Sinkholes
The marina's seawall was failing due to hydrostatic pressure caused by inadequate drainage. Inspections revealed weak soils and voids behind the seawall, along with panel separations. The lack of proper drainage from rainfall and storm events exacerbated soil erosion.
The Solution: Installing Jet Filter System Weep Hole Drains
After repairing the seawall and filling the sinkholes, it was clear that the drainage system needed improvement to prevent future failures. Jet Filter System and Alon Beilis from Sea Me Dive installed 147 stainless steel, 4” maintainable weep hole filters. These filters were mounted above the normal barnacle line to provide a defined drainage path, eliminating hydrostatic pressure and sealing panel joints.
Two years later, engineers confirmed the effectiveness of the repairs, with no soil voids or settlement detected.
